For Recruits and New Scouts

We are pleased that you are considering to join our Cub Scout Pack. It is our hope that you and your child will find your time with the pack a rewarding and fun experience in which to continue or begin your Scouting adventure.

We have an active Cub Scout program, with Pack meetings, Den meetings, Field Trips and other experiences throughout the year. We encourage you and your scout to attend as many activities as possible. Some activities help the scouts advance through the Cub Scout ranks, or earn belt loops and patches.

We want parents to be active as well! We have roles for everyone ranging from once-a-year activity roles to Den Leaders and Pack administrators. We have a Pack Committee made up of leaders and other adults. The committee usually meets on the second Thursday of the month to discuss and plan events and the fund raising necessary to "help the pack go". A list of volunteer positions is here.

Currently, the basic cost to join the pack is only $24, with optional additional $12 to subscribe to Boys Life magazine, the exclusive magazine for Cub Scouts and beyond.  Dens typically have a small dues fee to cover the cost of materials for crafts and projects. A uniform is an important part of Cub Scouts, and a shirt will be required. See the Uniform page for more information.  There is an additional annual 'Pack Dues' that will pay for most all events, this will vary slightly from year to year depending on the program. Typically, a scout can "earn" the compensated cost of Pack Dues by participating in our various fundraisers.

How to Join Pack 243

We have two formal recruiting events each year, one in the spring and one in the fall.  However, you can join Cub Scouts any time of the year.  You do NOT have to attend either Armstrong or Sewell to be a part of our pack!  If your child is in 1st through 5th grade at *any* school (public, private or home), he is able to join.

Steps to join:

  • Complete paperwork: Fill out a Cub Scout Application and return it to the Cubmaster or Committee Chair.
  • Pay Registration fee: When you turn in the paperwork, please include your registration fee.
  • Invite others: Encourage your child to invite friends to join to earn a recruiter patch!
  • Help Out: Consider what role you would like to play to help Pack 243 run. Fill out the Parent Talent Survey!  Ask any Pack Administrative leader listed below to see what positions are needed.
  • Purchase your scouting supplies: Uniform, patches and Cub Scout Handbooks. See the Uniform page for Cub Scout Store locations. Materials and uniforms are also available to order online from the Boy Scouts of America website.
  • Adult leaders: Welcome! You will need to fill out a New Adult Application.

Please note: Pack 243 believes that financial concerns should not prevent anyone from enjoying Cub Scouting. If you have any concerns with the cost of joining the pack, contact the Cub Master or Pack Committee Chairman at the e-mail addresses below. All such discussions are kept strictly confidential within the pack committee.
