Pinewood Derby prep!

It is that time of year to start on those great pinewood derby designs!  Look for receiving your kit next week from your den leaders.

You can get a head start on making your car if you would like to and have the tools.  We will be having our "Monster Garage" pack meeting at the end of Jan dedicated to cutting out and starting on the boys cars, we want *all* boys to participate and will help them as needed.

If you will not be able to pick one up from your den leader let me know and i'll get one to you, or you can wait until our next meeting and get one then.  At a minimum the boys should have an idea of what they want their car to look like by the next pack meeting on January 26. I have attached some rules of the race and tips on helping your scout build their car.

Parents and other family members can and are encouraged to participate as well!  We will have a 'non-scout' division which will go by the same rules as the scouts race.  For the non-scout division, you can buy a car kit from the pack for $5 each (scouts get their kit free).

There is also an 'outlaw' class where just about anything goes (motors, springs, car bought off of ebay, whatever! be creative!), scouts and parents are welcome to enter! (I have some ideas for mine this year..)  The only rules for the outlaw class is that it fits on the track, does not leave a mark on the track, no fire and no water. The weight limit is increased to 7oz for this race class.  Please consider spectator safety and limit the design appropriately.

More info and some car design ideas is available at our website: www.sachsepack243.com/events/pinewood-derby, and the attached rules & tips document.

A Pinewood Derby Clinic will be provided by Troop 100 on Saturday Jan 10, 9am-3pm (see attached flyer).  you may want to get there earlier as it has been a bit crowded in the past.  This has been a great help for some to get a start on their design.
